Face Angle at Impact Owns the Start Line
On a putt of any meaningful length, the direction the ball starts is governed overwhelmingly by where the face is pointing when it makes contact. Path contributes, but far less than most golfers assume. That makes start line the single most productive thing to measure at the beginning of a putter block, because it is the one variable that a piece of equipment can genuinely influence.

Five Specs, Roughly in This Order
Length and Posture
Almost every putter sold off a rack is too long for the person holding it, which pushes the hands away from underneath the shoulders and adds an arc nobody asked for. We set length from your actual address posture rather than from your height.
Lie Angle
The sole should sit flat at address and stay close to flat at impact. A toe-up putter presents the face slightly left of where you aimed it, and no amount of practice makes that consistent.
Loft and Roll
Enough loft to lift the ball out of its resting depression and start it rolling early. Firm, fast greens want less than soft greens do, and our local surfaces are firm most of the year.
Head Style and Balance
Toe hang versus face balance, blade versus mallet. This gets chosen to support your measured face control, not from a personality quiz about whether you are an arc putter.
Grip Size and Shape
A larger grip quietens the hands and helps some golfers, and takes feel away from others. We test rather than assume, and we let you putt with each option long enough to form an opinion.
Head Weight
Heavier heads suit slower, longer strokes and firmer greens. It is an easy adjustment on most modern putters and one of the quickest ways to change distance control.
The Face Mark Applies Here Too
A putt struck toward the toe leaves the face slower and, on many head designs, starts slightly right of where a centred strike would. Over a season that is a lot of putts finishing short and low on the amateur side. We spray the putter face just like every other club in the building, because the same principle holds: contact location is upstream of everything else.
Heel or toe bias also interacts with head design. A high-inertia mallet loses much less on an off-centre strike than a small blade does, which makes it the better choice for a golfer whose putter face chart is wide — regardless of what shape they prefer to look down at.
